Dutch & French fleets in the battle of Tobago, 22 March 1677

Dutch squadron under commodore Jacob Binckes was of 3 ships-of-line (top 3 in the table below), 5 frigates, 3 armed merchants (the last 3), a brander (De Zaeyer) & a yacht (De Fortuyn)

French fleet under D’Estrees was of 6 ship-of-line (top 6 in the table below), 4 frigates, one brander & some other smaller ships. There about 4,000 men on the ships, inl. 9 companies of soldiers (450) & about 400 volunteers.

French lost 4 ships (Le Glorieux, burnt; L’Entrepid, captured & burnt; Le Pretieux, aground and captured; Le Marquis, blew up) & were made to retreat. Dutch lost only one ship - Huis te Kruiningen was blew up.
